The "Totem and Scroll" Series

Tuesday, March 6, 2012
2012 is turning out to be a very creative year for me.
I'm going in directions I never saw coming.

First there was the "Be the Vessel" series,
and a painting and poetry collaboration with Taschie......
(I can't even wait to tell you what she and I have dreamt of doing next OMG)

Now I'm creating a sculptural series, I'll call "Totem & Scrolls".

Here's a few shots of the "totem poles" I worked on today......

They were a bit difficult to photograph -
probably because I haven't devised a way to hang them yet.
I'm sure I'd give you a better idea of how they'll actually look if they were hung.

But I've only done 3 so far and I can never wait to share a day's work with you.

If I told you the thoughts and dreams that were wound around, tied to
and painted upon these "totem poles", you wouldn't believe me.

I see them hung in a series - vertically, horizontally or diagonally.....
even random scattered placement across a large wall.

Or standing in a corner or a few gathered in a large vase.....

There's no "scrolls" yet to share - because they're still an idea percolating.

But you know I'll snap pics when some are born.

By the way, the paintings you see in these photos were done by my Mom.....
They're at least 7 years old -
a few days ago, I convinced her to give me a more recent work.
The newer ones are incredibly different and beautiful and ethereal.

It's amazing to see how an artist's work changes throughout the years.
Only yesterday, my own work was entirely different.....truly . . . only yesterday.
Isn't that magical?
It's almost like a living journal of your life because you remember things that were happening,
thoughts you were having and dreams you were dreaming during the making of each art piece.

What are you working on?

You, my dear, are having a creative epiphany, one right after the other! Tracey, you need to become a no word verification blog. Blogger has become obnoxious where this is concerned. I have many blogger buds that have jumped nthe bandwagon. You approve your comments anyway.

Hello Tracie,

I just have to say that your last paragraph resumes mainly the same idea I have of my past works of art. It really is amazing how people change styles and color pallets as they experiment. Also, I love the idea of the Totem and Scroll series, I can't wait to hear more about it!

The totem are just beautiful. What did you use for them?
