"Good" Art Journaling vs. "Bad" Art Journaling

Monday, March 18, 2013
Okay.  I just have to say this . . .
I know that there is "good art" and that there is "great art".
(I'm not sure that there's any such thing as "bad art".)

But for goodness sake, art journaling is personal art.

In my opinion, it shouldn't be "graded" or "compared"
to someone who has done it longer or more "successfully".
This is one of the few spaces where we can allow ourselves the permission to
express and experiment . . .  just because we feel like it.
.
It's okay to share it with others if you want to
but please let's not evaluate or critique our own "work".
And let's not do that to others.

If we do receive what we feel is a "negative reaction",
that seems like a very good reason to throw it all on the next art journal page!

Ugh sorry that someone has been a douche enough to make you have to post this.

I agree with you 100% I am always telling my girls that there is no wrong way in art, when they are drawing and coloring. I want them to feel free to express themselves however they want. Besides some of the most important artist's did it the wrong way when they started out, and look where it go them! (Van Gogh comes to mind)

THANK YOU!!!! Somewhere there must be a place where people can "journal it out" without being judged!

I tell people they don't make mistakes, they just invent new methods. I spend a lot of my teaching time overcoming fear because so many people have been told that they are not good at art and they shouldn't do it. I say as long as THEY are happy with what they are doing, who cares. Most of the people I teach (senior citizens) are not in a competition, they are just doing it for fun, which is the best reason to be doing it. (off my soapbox now) LOL!
