When I'm Silent
Tuesday, May 6, 2014
"When I'm silent, I have thunder hidden inside." - Rumi
(Which is a poetic way of saying I've been enjoying my little Spring break from "Bloglandia".)
Painting has turned in a new direction.
Some are ink-y and collage-y and on paper.
Some are on my standard big ole canvas.
All are decidedly more florescent and simple lined.
The color and ease of Spring seem to have greatly influenced me.
Yes, I'm quite good at this life of leisure!
I'm the girl curled up with (another) life-altering book
in the corner of my breezy beachside courtyard.
Or you may find me soaking up the heat in a warm, desert courtyard!
Muy caliente.
I do admit to having a severe case of Spring Fever.
You?
Are you filling up on flowers and sunshine and color and air?
Finding any "white space" on your calendar to just BE?
Do find some time for you.

Extreme Measures
Wednesday, January 16, 2013
I did something extreme!
And it has nothing to do with these tiny little sketches......
I de-activated my Facebook account last night.
I know! Gasp!
You see I'd been noticing an addiction -
one of those addictions that's socially acceptable - no one really notices anything is wrong at all.
And as addictions do, it was encroaching on my "real life".
Subtly sucking time and energy away from what I really wanted.
Which is primarily spending more face to face time with my family and friends
(rather than messaging them online!)
AND more time painting, writing and generally being happier, more fulfilled.
That little internal voice kept tugging on my ear until I finally paid attention.....
"It's time to get outta social media. You'll be happier with less distractions - more action," it said.
And so, I did.
I'm currently going through "Facebook withdrawals".
Way stronger than the feelings I had when just on a short term "media fast".
It feels vaguely like I'm "missing out on something".
But I'm also feeling a growing glimmer of spaciousness.
(Insert oooh's and ah's.)
So never mind these somber-crooked-faced sketches -
Truth is I've been too lazy/distracted/busy to learn how to draw smiling faces!
But now, I just may find the time......

Bloggy Break
Thursday, September 6, 2012
I've been a little absent here as of late and
just realized that I have intuitively taken a little "bloggy break".
Therefore, I'm hereby making it "official". . . ta da!
I'll be taking the last few weeks of summer to "fill the well".
I intend on coming back feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to BLOOM!
See you in October!

Filling the Well
Tuesday, April 17, 2012
The desert is not a parched place.

Rather, it's "water" for my creative life.

I spent the past week "filling the well".

Now I'm swimming in images, color, texture and taste.

I know what happens next.

It will spill out onto canvas and paper.

This is how the creative cycle is for me.

Filling up, spilling out.

Taking, giving.

And so I'll return to the easel this week . . .

And see what color comes . . .

What creature comes out from hiding . . .

What landscape wants to be revealed . . .

What shape wants to be excavated . . .

What exotic people want to be born . . .

What patterns emerge . . .

And which texture wants to be felt.

Energy in/Energy out.
Salud!
