Sanctuary

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

A gift for my art journal . . .

a gift from our new friend, egret.

A gift left for us on the hills of this sanctuary.

I'd nearly forgotten how much I loved walking there - especially on a cloud covered morning.

It's been far too long since I visited this sanctuary for birds . . . this sanctuary for me.

After a walk there, I feel a deep sense of peace and stillness, which I carry with me all day . . .

and that leaves me with a smile on my face.

You don't have to go far . . .

Sunday, September 19, 2010
to find a bit of nature sometimes.

Not far at all.
Sometimes it's right outside your kid's balcony.

If you're lucky, it will put on a glorious show . . .

causing you to swoon in delight . . .

while kids squeal with high pitched terror.

The moment's gone in a flash . . . but the memory lingers all day.

"General Wolf Rules for Life"

Tuesday, October 27, 2009
". . . I would suggest you begin right now with anything on this list. For those who are struggling, it may help greatly to begin with number ten.

General Wolf Rules for Life:

1. Eat
2. Rest
3. Rove in between
4. Render loyalty
5. Love the children
6. Cavil in the moonlight
7. Tune your ears
8. Attend to the bones
9. Make love
10. Howl often"

-Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. from "Women Who Run With the Wolves"

Everywhere We Go . . .

Thursday, October 22, 2009

People are wearing white after Labor Day . . .

Blinding stark white clothes!

I mean, it's really kinda scary!

Spooky to be so close to Halloween,
yet feel so free to break long standing fashion rules . . .

It does feel

and look a lot like Spring.

The whole world's in bloom!

So I guess white is right,

orange and black just feels more appropriate.

Just a couple of things

Monday, August 24, 2009
I'm grateful to have in my life . . .

The Bolsa Chica Wetlands (only blocks from my home).
The Pacific is just on the horizon.

And the freedom to walk it with someone special (and dusty) -- The Flea Man!
