Some Things You Just Know

Monday, March 4, 2013
This weekend, we went to see Stevie Nicks in concert.
Before singing her next song, she shared with us how it was born.

Many years ago, Stevie was with a group of friends in Aspen CO.
They'd rented a big home with sweeping views of the snow covered mountains.
At dinner time, everyone was preparing to go out for the evening.....
but Stevie was enraptured with the incredible view - one she said is still unsurpassed.

"No, I'll not be joining you for dinner," she said.
"I have a song to write."
So for the next two hours, Stevie sat on the floor with her guitar and notebook.

The poetry and melody poured out of her easily.
Some things you just know - and Stevie KNEW
this was the song that would change the course of her career.
And indeed it has.

Here's a bit of that "masterpiece".

Not to compare my art or my process to Stevie's, but I understand
the feeling of "just knowing" when you've hit a new level creatively.

About a year ago, I painted the piece below on the left.
Immediately, I KNEW that everything (art wise) had changed for me.

With it came a change in palette, depth, texture and artistic direction.
For sure, not every painting since has been a success, but I have a "feeling" I seek to re-create.
The "feeling" of ease and flow and depth.
To that, I continually aspire.

That piece won a blue ribbon at a local art show this weekend -
a bit of feedback always helps affirm your direction!

How 'bout you?
Ever experience "JUST KNOWING" creatively?

That is the piece that resonates with me too. I love it. I often go back and look at it for inspiration. I love all your work, but that piece really calls to me.

Congrats Trace! It is a fab piece for sure. I have watched the changes, and there have been big ones. Yes,I think an artist knows when something feels right and the stars are in alignment. Enjoyed the Stevie Story too!

I love Steve Nicks' work and I absolutely love your amazing artwork. Congratulations on the well-deserved blue ribbon. Thanks for the great music that I am enjoying with my breakfast on this sunny morning with the birds singing as an accompaniment!

Tracie, I knew you when...

I just 'leafed' backwards through your blog and was searching for this:

(your blog reads) Friday, July 24, 2009
Over the past few weeks, I've been working on my first painting on canvas.....I do just a little each week for my class with Shiloh Sophia McCloud.

Am I remembering her name correctly? was she Thealia? or Thalia?

My, she has traveled a long distance...from her past/ beginnings of 2009...to the present of 2013.

"If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud." – Emile Zola

We hear you Artist Tracie Thalia...and your life song is beautifully loud, sensitive and strong!! May love and creativity continually surround you!
Love, Maryruthie

Tracie,
I so love to gaze at your paintings. The magic is so strong. Your heart travels in circles with brushes. These figures are calling me. Must get to the easel and paint. Loving you, sister.
